Rima Rana and Margaret Sena Akpo volunteer for Go Out and Love Science
Rima Rana and Margaret Sena Akpo, both of whom are Ph.D. candidates in the Garrett lab, volunteered to participate in Go Out and Love Science.
Go Out and Love Science, or #GOALS, in collaboration with the Ascension Foundation, was conducted on March 24 at the Wayne State University School of Medicine campus.
250 middle school students from three Detroit Public Schools – Emerson Elementary-Middle School, Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School, and Sampson-Webber Leadership Academy – attended the one-day event, participating in hands-on activities to inspire a love for science and medicine.

Happy to volunteer their time to spread "awareness about such programs for new students" and to increase future participation, Rima Rana and Margaret Sena Akpo created learning opportunities for middle school students that involved aspects of surgery, depicted in the images above.
