Wayne State hosts 52nd Annual Midwest Pharmacology Colloquium

Wayne State University hosted the 52nd Annual Midwest Pharmacology Colloquium on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Held at McGregor Memorial Conference Center and the Community Arts Center, the event welcomed over 150 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty from the four participating institutions – Michigan State University, University of Michigan, University of Toledo, and Wayne State University. 

Dr. Steve Lanier, the WSU colloquium committee chair, and Mr. Donte Jackson, event specialist from Wayne State’s Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, coordinated and supervised the day’s proceedings, ultimately showcasing the research of the region’s talented young scientists.   

Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows presented 82 posters and held 12 platform talks.

Dr. Deborah Cory-Slechta, professor of environmental medicine at the University of Rochester – described by graduate students as “a luminary in the field of pharmacology" – was the keynote speaker.

Dr. Angulique Outlaw – associate dean of postdoctoral training and professional development at Wayne State’s Graduate School, which co-sponsored the event – spoke with trainees.

Other sponsors included Wayne State's Division of Research & Innovation and School of Medicine, the PhRMA Foundation, Cayman Chemical, and Melware Biotechnology, Inc. 

The Midwest Pharmacology Colloquium occurs every June and covers a wide range of research areas, including neuropharmacology, molecular pharmacology, environmental sciences and toxicology, behavioral pharmacology, and cancer pharmacology.
