Urvashi Thongam
Biography
Urvashi Thongam holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Wayne State University (Detroit, MI). She is currently a Research Assistant in Dr. Jennell White’s Lab in the Pharmacology Department at Wayne State University’s School of Medicine (WSU-SOM) where she studies the regulation of red cell-endothelial interactions in sickle cell disease (SCD) using flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, and flow-based adhesion assays. Urvashi’s research focuses on the cell signaling pathways modulated by Hydroxyurea in SCD as well as the relationship between very-late antigen-4’s (VLA-4) activity and adhesion. Her long-term goal is to provide new knowledge about adhesion pathways and to understand the regulation of VLA-4 to help develop novel therapies for sickle cell disease patients.
