Raymond Mattingly, Ph.D., has been appointed chair of the Wayne State University School of Medicine's Department of Pharmacology, effective Jan. 4.
Dr. Mattingly replaces Bonnie Sloane, Ph.D., who has chaired the department since 1995. Dr. Sloane has retired from her position as chair, but will continue to conduct research as a faculty member.
"The Department of Pharmacology faculty overwhelmingly nominated Dr. Mattingly to assume the leadership role," said Jack D. Sobel, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine. "Their support, and my confidence in his dedication and vision for the department, makes him the ideal person to become chair."
The Grosse Pointe, Mich., resident has been a member of the School of Medicine faculty since 1998.
